Tulsi (Holy Basil) - Ocimum sanctum
Holy Basil, Ocimum sanctum - even the name evokes sensations of calm and peace within and around.
Tulsi has a long and revered history, beginning in the ancient practice of Ayurvedic medicine where it was used for its ability to restore balance and harmony in the mind, body and spirit.
The Western world followed some thousands of years later by researching and acknowledging the miraculous healing properties of this plant.
Tulsi has properties that acts as:
A powerful anti - inflammatory
Antioxidant
Immune System modulator
Current research is delving into the promising possibilities for Tulsi to assist in the treatment of cancer liver disease, arthritis, all of which aligns itself with the Ayurvedic practise.
Tulsi is also a powerful corticosteroid ( it has the ability to reduce circulating stress hormones in the body). This means Tulsi oil diffused, burned, a few drops added to carrier oil or to your daily facial routine will help you reduce the stress created by our current hyper-stimulated environments and that can be quite life changing.
A book could be written on the properties and benefits of Tulsi as they appear endless.
It has a restorative effect on the nervous system, simply add Tulsi to a carrier oil and apply to the body, sip a cup of Tulsi tea or, diffuse, burn the oil in the home.
Restores and harmonises the Chakras. The chakras are part of the bodies energy system and when out of alignment or unbalanced create havoc physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Daily contact with Tulsi essential oil should be sought. It offers up the solution to so much of the damage being done to our bodies through toxic environmental factors and day to day stress.

Tulsi, because it contains bitter compounds, should not be used during pregnancy unless under the supervision of a GP , Doctor or certified health professional with expertise in the use of essential oils.
Bitter herbs stimulate the liver to detoxify itself and can transfer increased reactive toxins into the blood stream which can cause miscarriage,
Use Tulsi in moderation, it is powerful in very small quantities.
For consumption of Tulsi we recommend a good quality Tulsi Tea. Do not ingest Tulsi or any other essential oil unless you are certain of the oils purity , its source, its manufacturing process and have qualified advice to guide you.
